CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – It's rare that a pickup game at halftime overshadows the game itself, but that may have been the case at Coastal Carolina Teal/Black Spring Game. At halftime, several CCU football alumni including 3 players currently in the NFL entertained the crowd with a touch football game.
That group included Miami Dolphins quarterback Tyler Thigpen, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jerome Simpson and current free agent defensive back Quinton Teal.
Thigpen spent most of the game as a receiver and defensive back. On the game's final play, he threw one pass to his old teammate Jerome Simpson. As it had in Brooks Stadium so many times before, the play went for a touchdown.
"Just like the old times," said Thigpen. "It's nice to be able to come back and see all the old guys you haven't seen in about three years, it's really nice. It was pretty awesome."
Simpson agreed with his quarterback, saying the two hadn't lost their chemistry.
"Thig knows where to put it, he still knows where to put it," said Simpson. "It was in the back of the end zone like he always does, he put it in my zone. He knows where to put it still."
In CCU's spring game, the Black Team beat the Teal Team 9-3.
