CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – The Black Team took advantage of several turnovers and got just enough offense to beat the Teal Team 9-3 in Coastal Carolina's annual Teal/Black Spring Football Game.

Quarterback Jamie Childers led the Black Team to the game's only touchdown, connecting with Myron Rogers for the winning score.  Childers went 8-16 passing for 110 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.  After the game he gave credit to the other side of the ball.

"Defense did great, held the Teal to only three points, thought that was great," said Childers.  "Got a turnover in the red zone, that got us a touchdown and I think that won us the game."

On the Teal side, quarterback Zach MacDowall threw for 146 yards on 11-24 passing with one interception.  The Teal Team was in the red zone with a chance to score before the half, but fumbled the ball at the one yard line.  The Black Team would drive all the way for a then-tying field goal, a big momentum shifting sequence.

After the game, CCU head coach David Bennett seemed happy with his team's performance.

"We've got to be a lot better football team in the fall than we are right now," said Bennett.  We've got to be in a lot better shape in the fall than we are right now.  We're making steps. We're heading in the right direction."

Coastal Carolina opens their 2010 football season September 4th at West Virginia.
