Horry County, SC - HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The Easter holiday brought a good streak of luck for condo owners and hoteliers across the Grand Strand, as occupancy rates recorded by Coastal Carolina University skyrocketed.
Researchers with Coastal Carolina University's Clay Brittain Jr. Center for Resort Tourism report during the week of March 28 to April 3, midweek occupancy rates rose 47.4 percent compared to the same week in 2009. Weekend occupancy rates increased at a higher level, with researchers noting 70.8 percent of hotel rooms and condos were occupied.
"Consequently, revenue per available unit was up by 60.7 percent compared to the level of the equivalent week of 2009, which in that year, did not include the Friday and Saturday of Easter weekend," the report, which was released Friday, noted.
Based on the vacation rental properties sampled by Coastal Carolina University, officials believe the average occupancy rate will linger at or above 70 percent for April 9-10.
