ATLANTA (AP) - A Veterans Administration doctor in suburban Atlanta has been indicted in federal court after being accused of sexually assaulting a female patient.
U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said Wednesday that 46-year-old Devashish Ray of Alpharetta has been charged with sexual assault on a patient, sexual assault and making false statements to investigators. Authorities say Ray forced the patient to undergo a breast examination and tried to convince her she needed a pelvic exam. Authorities say Ray later asked a nurse to lie to investigators looking into the incident and say she was in the room during the Nov. 17, 2008, exam.
Authorities say Ray also lied to investigators, saying he had only examined the patient's abdominal area. Ray is out on bond. He could not be reached for comment, and it was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney.
VA officials did not immediately return a call for comment.
