Passenger ejected from vehicle killed in morning accident

LATTA, SC (WMBF) - One person was killed Wednesday morning when the pickup track he was in careened off the road and rolled just south of Latta.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred three miles south of Latta on Highway 38 around 7:15 a.m.

SCHP spokesman Cpl. Sonny Collins said a 2000 Ford pickup truck was westbound on Highway 38 near Hatchel Road when the vehicle started to go off the right side of the roadway. The driver over-corrected trying to stay on the road and flipped the truck several times.

The passenger in the truck, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck and died. The Dillon County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Juan Luis Egusquiza, 49, of Randleman, NC.

The driver the vehicle, Jesus Lopez of Asheboro, NC, was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions.
