Traffic stalled after crash on 501

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A multiple-car crash on US-501 put beach-bound traffic to a near standstill Tuesday morning as emergency crews work to clear the scene.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the four-car accident occurred around 8:15 a.m.with on an already-congested beach-bound US-501 between Carolina Forest Boulevard and the Tanger Outlet Mall. One car struck another vehicle from the rear, causing a chain reaction, according to SCHP spokesman Sonny Collins.

When EMS crews arrived, they shut down both lanes and began extrication of at least one victim. There were no serious injuries reported.

Collins says the road was blocked for a few minutes before the trooper and firefighters got to the scene to move the vehicles, and crews on the scene slowly diverted traffic onto the grass median.

Troopers are still investigating to see if any charges will be made.
