MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – There was baseball under the lights at BB&T Coastal Field, meaning the Myrtle Beach Pelicans season is getting ready to start.

The Pelicans held media day and their first workout on Tuesday. The team was together for a short time during Spring Training and is still working on the basics. Manager Rocket Wheeler is entering his fifth season in Myrtle Beach and has a hunch this team could be good.

"I think this team has something special about it," said Wheeler. "What it is right now, I don't know... it's just an air, a feeling. Now it's our job to mold these guys and get them rolling."

The players are just as excited as their skipper to start the 2010 campaign. Many spoke glowingly about what they've heard about Myrtle Beach fans and about being a Pelican.

"Very excited," said Pelicans catcher Mathew Kennelly. "When the lights come on, it's always exciting to go out and play baseball. Hopefully go out there and get the first win on the board and hopefully it rolls from there."

The Pelicans start their season Thursday evening against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
