CHARLOTTE, NC - Radford's Ivan Salec has been named the Big South Choice Hotels Men's Tennis Player of the week, while teammate Thomas Dehaen has been named the Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for matches played March 29-April 4, it was announced Tuesday. by the Conference office.
Salec, a junior from Oroslavje, Croatia, ended last week with a perfect 3-0 mark at the top singles position and teamed with Thomas Dehaen to go 3-0 at the No.1 doubles position. This lead Radford to wins over North Florida and Big South Foe Coastal Carolina.
Along with Salec's perfect singles record, the two-time All-Conference performer ran his singles winning streak to 13 consecutive wings and his doubles streak to eight straight, while improving to 13-4 and 12-1, respectively.
His singles and doubles wins this past week included wins over competitors from No. 69 UNC Wilmington (12-5), North Florida (15-5) and Conference foe Coastal Carolina (12-5).
Dehaen, who is a freshman from Zwevegem, Belgium, had a flawless 3-0 record last week at the No. 2 singles position. He teamed with Ivan Salec to go 3-0 at the No.1 doubles position.
In the singles competition, Dehaen has won four consecutive matches, while winning eight straight in doubles to improve 9-7 and 12-1, respectively.
He also defeated UNF's Daniel Sotomarino, 7-5, 6-0, UNC Wilmington's Kinshuk Sharma, 6-4,2-6,7-5 and Coastal's Matt Gordon, 7-6 (7-4), 2-0.
This is Dehaen's third Big South Freshman of the Week honor of the season.
