GARDEN CITY,SC (WMBF) – Garden City Baptist Church held its first Easter Service in its new building. The church's old sanctuary was destroyed by a fire in the summer of 2009.
Easter was also the first day the church held two services. Senior Pastor Rev. Rich McLawhorn says both services were packed today. The service was held in the Fellowship Hall, which is a smaller space than the sanctuary. Though it doesn't matter where they worship.
"It doesn't feel that much different- we're here to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and what he did for us on the cross," McLawhorn said.
One of the only things salvaged from the fire was a cross that now hangs up in the Fellowship Hall.
McLawhorn says construction is going as planned on the new sanctuary.
