Darlington, SC - DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) – There was quite a turnout for the inaugural Diabetes Awareness Stride Walk in Darlington on Saturday.
About 100 people came out to participate in the walk through downtown. They walked 2 miles and raised about $2,000 to support diabetes programs in Darlington County.
The Darlington Lions Club partnered with the Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County to sponsor the event. The Lions have adopted the Strides Walk program in South Carolina because the state is number 2 in the nation, per capita, for diabetes, which is the number one cause of blindness in the U.S.
The Lions have organized Stride Walks in several communities around the area in the past year and plan on making the walk in Darlington an annual event.
