MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – High school track and field competitors from all over the Southeast competed at the 6th Annual Beach Run Invitational. The event was held at Myrtle Beach High School's Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium
Plenty of area athletes took home awards and honors. All were excited to compete at such against such a talented field.
"It brings out the best in everyone," said Carolina Forest pole vaulter Zachary Green. "It's a little intimidating, but I think it brings out the best in everyone."
The competitors say the high talent isn't too overwhelming; rather, they see a lot of people post personal-best times against the stiff competition.
"You try to up your times," said North Myrtle Beach runner Jennifer Boyer. "You go against people because you have better competition when you go against people that aren't from here. It's like a completely different world brought here, it's a really great experience."
The athletes hope their solid performances will carry over as they return to competing against other local schools in the coming weeks.
"It gives me a good look of how state and region is going to be," said Wilson High School runner Bryan Hines. "I'm really enjoying it."
The event was hosted by Carolina Forest High School.
