Colorado Springs, CO -

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - USA Swimming has reached a three-year broadcast deal with Universal Sports to televise four Grand Prix Series events annually leading up to the 2012 London Olympics.

The coverage began Thursday with the opening day of the Columbus (Ohio) Grand Prix, which featured U.S. Olympians Eric Shanteau, Chloe Sutton, Cullen Jones and Peter Vanderkaay, along with Brazilian gold medalist Cesar Cielo. The cable network also plans to broadcast events in Charlotte, N.C., and Santa Clara, Calif.

The Universal deal coincides with NBC's plans to televise the U.S. Championships, the Pan Pacific Championships and the Short Course Nationals.
