Columbia, SC - COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - A string of severe weather that pounded much of the Carolinas over the weekend has resulted in the filing of 2,518 insurance claims, according to the South Carolina Insurance News Service.
Officials say the majority of the insurance claims are for hail and wind damage, amounting to an estimated $6.3 million in damages. Insurance companies have reported receiving 1,839 in auto claims and 679 in homeowner claims.
Hail and downed trees have been the primary reasons listed for damages.
The survey, conducted by the S.C. Insurance News Service, included data from insurance companies that do business in South Carolina representing about 70 percent of the market.
