HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – St. James High School came up one win short of their repeat bid at the Mingo Bay Classic baseball tournament.

The Sharks fell 5-0 against South County High School out of Virginia in the "A Bracket" of the Ashby Ward Draw in the Mingo Bay Classic.

South County catcher Mike Perez was named MVP of the championship game.  Robert Troiano pitched a strong game on the mound for the Sharks, who couldn't get anything going offensively off South County starter Evan Beal.

St. James is off the one of their best starts ever, ranked first in Class 3A by the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association.

The game against South County was played at Carolina Forest High School.  Carolina Forest lost to South County in the semifinals of the A Bracket, but went on to win their final Mingo Bay game earlier Friday.
