Sanford got anti-government group letter

Columbia, SC - COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - State law enforcement officials have a letter sent to South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford by an anti-government group that wrote governors around the country, demanding they step down.

State Law Enforcement Division spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said Friday a letter was mailed to Sanford but he did not personally receive it. SLED now has the letter.

The Guardians of the Free Republics' website says the group wants to "restore America" by peacefully dismantling parts of the government.

An internal intelligence note by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security obtained by The Associated Press says letters more than 30 governors have received demands that they leave office within three days or they will be removed.
