Horry County, SC - HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - You've heard the warnings: Keep your eye out for Census scams. Now, Horry County Police are asking residents to be on the lookout for fake Census forms circulating along the Grand Strand.
Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for the department, says investigators have been receiving multiple calls about the possibility of fake Census forms being mailed to people in Horry County.
Kegler says the form asks for the Social Security Numbers of the people in the receiving household, but advises the real Census form does not ask for such information.
The Horry County Police Department is urging residents to not fill out any Census forms asking for Social Security Numbers or other identification information. Anyone receiving a form asking for that type of information is asked to contact the U.S. Census Bureau immediately.
