CCU gets statewide recycling award

Conway, SC - From Coastal Carolina University:

CONWAY, SC - Coastal Carolina University recently received the "Recycling Event of the Year Award" from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

CCU was honored for its 2009 Campus Salvage Program, to which students donate reusable items (such as furniture, entertainment centers, etc.) at the end of the year for resale the next year. 

The award is part of DHEC's Recycle Guys Awards program, which recognizes the state's top recycling programs and the people who organize them.

Marissa Mitzner, CCU's Sustainability Coordinator, accepted the award. She was named the university's first sustainability coordinator in 2008 after serving in the position as a student.
