Ethics Commission: Gilland must pay fines by April 7

CONWAY, SC - Liz Gilland might be leaving the Horry County Council, but her ethics fines aren't going anywhere.

Gilland, who in January was hit with a record $45,000 fine by the state Ethics Commission, has until April 7 to pay the penalty.

If she doesn't, the state could begin deducting her county-funded salary to cover the debt.

Cathy Hazelwood, the commission's attorney, said the ethics commission hasn't received any payment from Gilland, whose fines ballooned after she failed to file mandatory campaign disclosure forms from her 2006 re-election campaign.
