CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina had a rare experience—losing a 3-game series at Charles Watson Stadium. That's what happened to the Chants this weekend, losing 2 games to visiting San Diego.
The final loss may have been the most painful, losing 2-1 on Sunday. Coastal had two runners on with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but a double play ended CCU's chances.
"We battled there for a while, we just didn't get a lot of clutch base hits," said CCU center fielder Rico Noel. "They came through with one. That's just baseball, we just got beat. We played well, but it happens."
Starter Anthony Meo pitched a great game Sunday, going a career-best 8.2 innings. He was pulled with a runner on third and two outs in the ninth. That runner scored, putting San Diego ahead and handing Meo his first loss on the season.
"There was only one out left, guy on third, thought I could get him out," said Meo. "I wanted to stay out there real bad, but I didn't make that decision, gotta live with it."
Coastal Carolina is back in action Wednesday evening on the road against Clemson. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
