Augusta, GA - From Francis Marion University

AUGUSTA, GA - Senior right fielder Trent Knight hammered a two-run homer in the sixth inning to help 11th-ranked Francis Marion University to a 5-4 game-two win and a split of Saturday's Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader with Augusta State University.  ASU won the opener 5-2.

Francis Marion is now 23-7 overall and 6-5 in the PBC, while ASU is 10-20 and 2-9.  The two teams will play a single game on Sunday at noon on Jaguar Field.

FMU was held to a combined 11 hits in the two games.

Senior southpaw Josh Edgin (5-2) won his third straight PBC decision in game two with a near complete-game effort.  FMU senior righty Brandon Forshee got the last out to record his ninth save.

Knight was 2-for-3 and drove in three of FMU's five runs.  The Patriots also took advantage of six ASU walks and two Jaguar errors.

In the opener, Francis Manion managed only five hits.  Trailing 3-0, FMU pulled to within 3-2 on an ASU outfield error and an RBI fielder's choice grounder by Josh Smith.

Patriot senior right-hander Erik Sommerville (4-2) allowed four runs (three earned) in four innings of game one, while Jeremiah Meiners tossed the last four frames.
