MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Players, coaches and some local celebrities helped kick off the Grand Strand Miracle League's spring season. The Miracle League is a baseball league for mentally and physically disabled kids.

The league depends on volunteers and parents to give the kids a great experience.

"When you come to the Miracle League, you come to help a kid," said Miracle League coach Kermit "K2" Gibson. "What happens is you get more out of it than you put in. Opening Day, we truly try to make it special."

Opening day also saw a "celebrity" game, where the Miracle League players took on a team that included several familiar faces from WMBF News. Anchors Michael Maely, Danner Evans, Paula Caruso and WMBF News Storm Team meteorologist Katy Morgan were among the players on the celebrity team.

The WMBF News staff members struggled getting on base in the celebrity games.

"They're awful good looking, though," said Gibson. "They showed up and they smiled. A lot of talent, they need a little work [with baseball]."
