Trio of pups stolen from animal shelter

Marion County, SC - MARION COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Workers at the Marion County Animal Shelter are offering cash money to whomever helps them get back three puppies that were stolen during a burglary overnight.

MCAS Executive Director Jen Nall says the 10-week-old Labrador/German shepherd mix, 6-week-old Lab/boxer mix and 5-week-old pit bull were stolen sometime Thursday night or Friday morning. The burglars broke into the shelter by cutting a padlocked chain, she explained.

"[The burglar] hand-picked what they wanted - three puppies from three different pens," Nall said.

The shelter is offering a reward for help getting the pups back, and are raising money for that reward. Nall says since they opened in October 2008, they have never had any animals stolen.

"I can't believe that someone would actually break into the animal shelter and steal puppies," Nall commented. "I can only hope that these puppies were not and will not be harmed. I'm extremely upset that someone could do this."

Nall says it is possible that the person who stole the puppies will try to sell them. Anyone with information is urged to call the Marion County Sheriff's Office or the shelter.
