Big South announces golfers of the week

Charlotte, NC - From Big South Sports

CHARLOTTE, NC - Charleston Southern senior Kelvin Day (London, England) and Radford senior Megan Leineweber (Salisbury, Md.) have been named the Choice Hotels Big South Men's and Women's Golfer of the Week, respectively, for events played March 18-24, it was announced today by the Conference office.

In a field stacked with three of GolfStat's top 50 teams in the nation, Day tied for fifth at the Furman Intercollegiate (par 72, 6,994 yards) with a 1-over 217 (75-72-70), his fifth top-10 finish of the season. Just four golfers were better than Day in the event – three from No. 18 Clemson and one from No. 29 Chattanooga. Day finished higher than each of the top 100 individuals who competed in the event, and also was the highest finisher of the 20 Big South golfers in the field. Day was one of just six players with a sub-par round on the final day, and he tallied 13 birdies and played the par-5 holes in minus-3 for the week.

Leineweber tied for runner-up honors out of 112 golfers at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate (par 72, 6,043 yards) with a 3-over 147 (72-75), marking her second top-10 finish of the season and highest standing in 2009-10. She was consistent throughout the event, as she opened with an even-par 72 to hold second-place after the first round. Leineweber missed tying for medalist honors by one stroke.
