MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – It's no surprise to many the Carolina Forest area is growing by leaps and bounds. Construction has begun on the latest business complex to hit the area, and developers say it's featuring two big-name stores.

Crews have been working on the site, located along International Drive near River Oaks Drive, that will soon be home to a Lowe's grocery store and a CVS.

Developers have been in the first phase for a week, which includes constructing a small, looped road and installing water and sewage lines for drainage.

Wes Lovell, president of Jayco Inc., says it's wonderful the company can give construction workers jobs again.

"I know we probably won't ever get back to the way it was because it was so busy at one time, but maybe we can get some consistency and get back to being steady again.  I think it's good.  It brings a lot of business to the area and I think Horry County needs more business, especially with the economy the way it is now it will help stimulate growth, " Lovell commented.

The company that owns the land - Edens and Avant - will make the decision when building can begin after the first phase of the project is completed.

While road congestion in Carolina Forest is a constant concern for people who live in the area of Myrtle beach, most residents said they are not worried about the project because of the traffic light at the intersection of River Oaks Drive and International Drive.

The first phase of the project should be completed by July.
