Darlington Schools names Outstanding 1st-Year Teacher finalists

Darlington, SC - DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - First-year teachers from Brunson-Dargan Elementary School, Darlington High School and Hartsville High School have been chosen as finalists for this year's Outstanding First Year Teacher award.

A panel of judges composed of National Board-certified teachers narrowed the field of seven down to three finalists based on the nominees' applications and essays.

The three finalists are Jennifer Amy Driggers, a math teacher from Darlington High School; Kimberley Joy McLennan, an exceptional education teacher from Brunson-Dargan Elementary School; and Mollie Soto, a Spanish teacher from Hartsville High School.

The three will now go through an interview process with the judges. The winner will be announced at an upcoming Board of Education meeting.

The seven Outstanding First Year Teacher nominees were nominated by their principals for showing exceptional promise in their first year of teaching. The nominees are:

  • Kimberley Joy McLennan, Brunson-Dargan Elementary School
  • Brittney Johnson, Cain Elementary School
  • Julie Hanlin, Carolina Elementary School
  • Jennifer Amy Driggers, Darlington High School
  • Mollie Soto, Hartsville High School
  • Michael Brian O'Neal, Hartsville Middle School
  • Benjamin Brewer, Lamar High School
