FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - The Florence RedWolves have signed two new players, a junior first baseman and right-handed pitcher.
The team signed Ryan Durrence, a 6-2, 220-pound junior first baseman/outfielder from Bethune-Cookman University.
"Ryan is a proven, legitimate, power bat," said coach Russell Carter. He is already putting up very good numbers again this year at Bethune-Cookman."
In 2009, Durrence hit double-digit homers in the Valley League, according to Carter.
"We look for Ryan to provide some serious thump to the middle of our order," he commented. "I am very excited to have someone with Ryan's credentials on our ball club."
Dallas Beeler, the 6-5, 210-pound pitcher from Oral Roberts University, is currently recovering from an arm injury, but is expected back for the second half of Oral Roberts' spring season.
"He's a right handed arm that could be part of our rotation or a piece in our bullpen," Carter said. "His ability to start or relieve will be a great asset to our pitching staff."
The Florence RedWolves is also planning a new promotion this summer for fans' pet dogs. Pet Lover's Warehouse will sponsor the first ever Bark in the Park at American Legion Field. The event will be held July 7, and fans will be able to bring their dogs, (up to 35 pounds), to the ball game that night. Tickets for the dog will be $2 and will be available at Pet Lover's Warehouse after the start of the RedWolves season.
"We are excited to be able to do an event like this, similar to ones that are done at minor and major league parks during their seasons, and we thank Pet Lover's Warehouse for sponsoring the night," said Jamie Young of the RedWolves.
