Beaufort, SC - BEAUFORT, SC (WMBF) - A joint ongoing criminal investigation at two restaurants in Beaufort County has led to the arrest of 15 individuals who authorities allege entered the country illegally.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, in addition to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, executed search warrants at two Jade Garden Chinese restaurants and several residences on Wednesday. The search warrants were made in connection to allegations relating to the harboring, transportation and hiring of illegal aliens.
During the searches, 15 workers were arrested for being in the country illegally, including the owner of the restaurant who was an ICE immigration fugitive.
Officials with the U.S. Attorney's Office say the 15 arrested are from various countries, including China, Mexico and Guatemala.
