Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Members of the Florence Fire Department hope a $1,730 grant will help raise fire awareness within the community and help reduce the number of damaging fires.

Chief Randal Osterman and Fire Marshal Ken Carr were presented with the award by FM Global representatives, one of the world's largest property insurers. FM Global has contributed millions in fire prevention grants to fire service organizations, many of which are based in South Carolina.

"We believe strongly the majority of property damage is preventable, not inevitable," said Michael Spaziani, manager of the fire prevention grant program. "Far too often, inadequate budgets limit those organizations working to prevent fire from being as proactive as they would like to be."
