Dillon, SC - DILLON, SC (WMBF) - Dillon Police say teenagers, including a juvenile, with murdering an Anderson man Tuesday morning during an attempted robbery.
Matthew Randell Cade, 17, Mikal Rashad Bethea, 17, both of Dillon, and a 16-year-old juvenile have been arrested and charged with the murder of 19-year-old Bennie Osworth Anderson II, of Mullins. All three also face charges of armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched to the Dovervillage Apartments at 414 S. Longstreet Rd. in Dillon just after midnight Tuesday on a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they found Anderson lying in the floor of an apartment with gunshot wounds to the left arm and side.
A witness said she and Anderson were sitting in the victim's vehicle in the parking lot when the three suspects surrounded the vehicle on both sides and the rear. Bethea walked up to the driver's side of the car, pointed a gun and demanded money, the witness said. Anderson gave him the money as Bethea fired several shots at the victim, according to the report.
According to the report, Bethea dropped Anderson's wallet in front of the vehicle before all three suspects fled.
Emergency crews transported Anderson to Dillon-McLeod Hospital, where he died about 16 hours later.
