MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A new festival in Horry County hopes to draw in tourists interested in sports and fishing.
Horry County Councilman Brent Schulz says the new festival is a project he spearheaded to get something new and different in the northern area of the county.
"We'll have the 82nd Airborne jump into it," said Schulz. "We'll have food and beverages [and] that sort of thing."
He says the name of the festival will be the Grand Strand Sports and Fishing Festival and will run from June 11-13. Schulz says he's gotten support from the community and several businesses including the Myrtle Beach Mall and the Bass Pro Shops.
The general manager of the Bass Pro Shops says the thousands of people expected for the event should help give a boost to his store's business.
"It's a benefit to us because obviously we cater to the fisherman and the hunter," said Dale Hancock with Bass Pro Shops. "There's a lot to see in there. The average person spends about three hours in our store."
