MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Over four thousand cheerleaders have poured into Myrtle Beach for the annual Cheer Ltd. national competition. The event helps to bring in thousands of dollars in business for hotels, airlines, and vendors.

"We have noticed that sales have slacked off this trip some" said Martha Jablonski who sells buttons for cheerleaders. "But we'll break even, and that's all we care to do" she said.

The competition not only brings in cheerleaders but thousands more in families and supporters. Event organizers have worked to bring this event back to Myrtle Beach year after year.

"This event is all about the athletes, we plan all year long for this event" said Scotti Marshburn, the executive director of the event.

Teams traveled from all over the country for the competition and many had to fund raise in order to cover travel expenses.

"It cost's a lot of money, you're talking about thousands of dollars in airfare, entry fees, hotels, and expenses" said Casey Tharp, a cheerleading coach from New Jersey.

The cheerleading festivities will wrap on Sunday with award presentations. Event organizers said they plan on planning for the 2011 competition as early as next week.
