Special Olympians make a splash at MB swim meet

Myrtle Beach, SC - HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A handful of athletes will be hitting the pool Saturday as the Horry County Special Olympics hosts its first annual Special Olympics Swim Meet.

Organizers say several teams from across the state will compete in aquatic events at the Pepper Geddings Recreation Center. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and is expected to conclude at 12:30 p.m.

Shortly following the meet, athletes and their families will enjoy a lunch at Ripley's Aquarium, located at Broadway at the Beach.

The Horry County Special Olympics serves more than 400 local mentally disabled athletes in a wide variety of sports. The organization currently has athletes who compete in state and national sports such as golf, alpine skiing, bowling, swimming, basketball and tennis.
