Special Olympics to hold spring games April 7

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Horry County Special Olympics is hosting its annual Spring Games on April 7. The event - slated for 10 a.m. at Socastee High School - is expected to draw hundreds of athletes from all areas of the county to compete in track and field events.

In addition to the competition, there will be a carnival, mascots, local celebrities, local athletes and live performances from several local bands and musicians, including Legends in Concert.

The event, sponsored by Ripley's, Springmaid Beach Resort and the Fraternal Order of Police, will welcome more than 40 other businesses from the community who will participate in the planning and implementation of the games.

Horry County Special Olympics serves more than 400 local mentally disabled athletes in several sports. HCSO currently has athletes who compete in local, state and national events such as golf, alpine skiing, bowling, swimming, basketball, bocce, tennis and track and field.
