Coastal Carolina Women's Track and Field Conclude CCU Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. – With a partial squad in action, the Coastal Carolina University women's track and field team wrapped up competition in the 2010 Coastal Carolina Invitational today (March 13). The Chanticleers welcomed 1,400 athletes from 37 schools and four clubs.  Coastal earned nine top-10 finishes on the day.

Thrower Brittany Connor started the day off winning the discus with a throw of 145'6" (44.20m) and she followed up her stellar discus performance by placing fourth in the shot put with a toss of 41'7.25" (12.68m). 

Tenasia White finished sixth in the discus, throwing 130'6" (39.78m) while Anjulia Nicholson threw 116'4" (35.45m) to finish 15th.  Both Nicholson and White also competed in the shot put, throwing 33'6" (10.21m) and 33'2.50 (10.12m), respectively. 

Jocelyn Starinshak was the lone pole vaulter, clearing 10' (3.05m) and finishing eighth overall. 

In the high jump, Kristen Burpoe and Kara Gajoch tied for ninth place after jumping 5'1" (1.55m). 

Thomasena Smith had a good day, finishing 12th in the long jump with a 17'3.25" (5.26m) mark and 16th in the triple jump after a mark of 34'6.25" (10.52m). 

In the track events, Melekia Simpson was the top finisher, placing third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.12.  Jerica Howard joined Simpson in the 100-meter dash, finishing sixth and crossing the finish line at 12.20.  Also in the event, Crystal Robinson and London Smalls placed 16th and 18th, respectively. 

In the 100-meter hurdles, Kandisa Allicock finished 16th at 15.36 while Estefania Ramirez was close behind in 19th at 15.46.  Jenna Kazmierczak and Shanace Issac rounded out the pack in the event, crossing the line in 16.09 and 23.38, respectively. 

Peggy Busbee ran the 800 meters, finishing 14th overall with a time of 2:23.04. 

Both Ramirez and Kazmierczak ran in the 400 meters, finishing 18th and 25th, respectively. 

In the relays, the 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Jerica Howard, Crystal Robinson, Kandisa Allicock, and Melekia Simpson finished seventh overall with a time of 48.65 followed by the ‘B' team, who finished 12th at 49.63 with members London Smalls, Thomasena Smith, Shanace Issac and Estefania Ramirez.  The 4x400-meter relay team of Jerica Howard, Crystal Robinson, Peggy Busbee and Issac placed 13th, crossing the finish line at 4:12.28. 

The Chanticleers are back in action with a full squad at the CCU/Shamrock Invitational March 18-20 at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

John Harrelson with the HCPD the bodies were found in a home on the 4000 block of Highway 19 in Conway. Details are extremely limited at this time.
