SC inmates accused of throwing feces at guards

Columbia, SC - COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - Two federal inmates in Edgefield have been indicted for allegedly assaulting guards in two separate incidents.

Sinclair Landon Atkins, 59, and Julio Adalbert Castellanos-Garcia, 36, both being held in the Federal Correctional Institute in Edgefield, are accused of throwing feces and urine of a correctional officer in 2009.

Atkins is currently serving an 80-month sentence for threatening a federal judge, while Castellanos-Garcia is serving a 36-month sentence for illegally re-entering the United States after deportation.

The maximum penalty each inmate faces is a fine of $250,000 and an additional term of imprisonment for three years.
