Myrtle Beach woman killed in Charleston Co. crash

Awendaw, SC - AWENDAW, SC (WMBF) - A Myrtle Beach woman was killed on US-17 in Awendaw early Wednesday morning in a car accident.

According to Charleston County Maj. John Clark, the accident occurred around 1:50 a.m. at US-17 North and Butterfly Lane in Awendaw. Investigators say the driver, a woman from Myrtle Beach, apparently lost control of her 1997 Ford Explorer and drove off the side of the road, overcorrected and flipped several times.

Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kelly Myers identified the woman as 32-year-old Andrea Torres, who died from blunt force trauma.

Clark said Myers was wearing a seatbelt and noted speed was a contributing cause of the accident.

The victim was the only occupant in the car at the time of the crash.
