MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Myrtle Beach High School point guard Khadijah Sessions is one of the most talented players in the state, already receiving plenty of interest from major college - all as a 10th grader. It's for good reason.
"I can score the ball pretty much anytime I want to," said Sessions.
Sessions has the Seahawks through the second round of the Class AAA playoffs, defeating Wilson Thursday night. Her scoring is impressive, but that might not be the most impressive part of her game.
"The one thing about Khadijah is people want to look at stats or how many points she scores, but it's true of any great point guard, is she makes her teammates better," said Seahawks head coach Brian Kiper.
Sessions has quite a famous last name when it comes to Myrtle Beach athletics. Her cousin, Ramon Sessions, starred for the Seahawks and is now with the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves.
"When I see him, he gives me advice," said Sessions. "Keep working hard, keep my head in, get to the gym, not just in practice but in my own time."
Sessions is certainly a star on the court, but she is much more focused on her team. That group, she says, has only one destination in mind.
"Our goal at the beginning of the season is to get to a state championship," said Sessions. "We have to take it one game at a time. Our goal when the playoffs started was to play each of these five games like they're the state championship, that's what our goal is."
