Winter weather closings and cancellations

(WMBF) - The following schools and businesses have reported closings or delays due to the threat of inclement winter weather:

Brunswick County

  • The Brunswick County Animal Shelter will be closed Saturday. The shelter will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday.
  • Brunswick County Waste Industries has canceled trash pick-up for Caswell and Sunset Beaches on Saturday.
  • The Brunswick County Landfill will operate on a 1-hour delay Saturday.
  • Brunswick County Schools has canceled all after school activities for Friday and Saturday, including CIS programs.
  • Brunswick Community College has canceled all activities for Saturday. The fitness center will be closed.

Darlington County

  • High School Dance Day has been canceled Saturday at Coker College. The event has been rescheduled for March 13.
  • The Georgia Pacific Dixie Plant will re-open Saturday at 11 a.m.

Florence County

  • Basketball games scheduled for Friday at South Florence High School have been postponed until Saturday. Varsity games will be played at the SFHS gym at 4 p.m. The boys' varsity basketball game will immediately follow the girls' game.
  • The JROTC Valentine's Dance has been canceled at Hannah-Pamplico High School Friday.
  • The McLeod Health and Fitness Center will open at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Horry County

  • Coastal Carolina men's and women's tennis teams have postponed their matches set for Saturday at 11 a.m. against USC Upstate. Both teams are working towards rescheduling the event.
  • Coastal Carolina University has canceled all campus events scheduled for Friday evening and Saturday through 6 p.m. Classes that meet on Saturday have also been canceled. Kimbel Library will open at noon Saturday.
  • Webster University's Myrtle Beach campus on US-17 Bypass has canceled Saturday classes.
  • Horry County will be closing the following buildings Saturday: all county libraries, the Horry County Museum, the L.W. Paul Living History Farm, the C.B. Berry Community and Historical Center, the James R. Frazier Community Center and the North Strand Community.
  • Horry County Parks and Recreation has canceled all sponsored programs Saturday to include all basketball games that will be held at Forestbrook Middle School, St. James Elementary, Green Sea Floyds High School and any other satellite locations. Make-up dates for these games have not yet been determined.
  • The Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA will open at noon Saturday.
  • The Phillips Simmons Artist Blacksmith meeting scheduled for Saturday has been canceled. The meeting has been rescheduled for Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • The 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. basketball games at the Crabtree Memorial Gymnasium have been rescheduled for Feb. 15 at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
  • The Catholic Church of St. James has cancelled the reconciliation retreat for second graders on Saturday morning. Parents will be notified of a make-up date.
  • The South Carolina Children's Museum will be closed Saturday.

State agencies

  • The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles will close offices that offer Saturday service due to winter weather conditions. All SCDMV offices will be closed on Monday in observance of President's Day. SCDMV offices will resume normal operations on Tuesday.

Flight delays and cancellations

Public transportation

  • Expect delays in service and a cancellation of Route 32 Grand Strand to Charleston Connector in advance of the snow storm predicted to blanket Horry County this weekend.  Coast RTA officials will continue to monitor weather conditions to determine if further cancellations will be necessary.
