CLEMSON, SC (WMBF) – Plenty of former Pee Dee and Grand Strand players had an impact against the college they grew up nearby. Among those was former Cheraw receiver Jaron Brown, who caught his first collegiate touchdown pass against Coastal Carolina.
"It gives me a lot of confidence," said Brown. "Coming in I didn't really have any receptions. I got my first reception, my first touchdown, I'm just proud."
Staying with offense, Marlboro County alum Rendrick Taylor was all over the field. He ran the ball once for 8 yards and caught two passes for 12 yards. He also played special teams and lined up at tight end.
Despite the variety, he has a favorite position.
"Right now I'd say running back," said Taylor. "I get the ball in my hands and just run people over."
One young player having an impact is West Florence grad Malliciah Goodman.
"I'm getting my fundamentals right and starting to play better," said Goodman, a defensive end.
The former Knight had six total tackles, including three solo tackles and one for loss against Coastal Carolina. He says he's learned a lot playing behind star defensive ends Ricky Sapp and Da'Quan Bowers.
"It's real big, learning things they learn, their techniques and things to look at," said Goodman.
