FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - South Florence High School football is a surprising team to be reckoned with this year, and a big reason for that is WMBF News Athlete of the Week Terrion Brown.
"We let them know the Bruins are back this year," the senior running back said.
Brown was part of those South Florence teams that looked like easy wins to opponents. He's now a part of a team that has notched several wins, including one recently over powerhouse Crestwood.
"We're better than what we were last year," Brown said. "Last year we were a good team but we couldn't finish a whole game. This year ... we got it this year."
Brown is drawing some interest from colleges, including Duke University. That, along with his impressive play this season, is hard to believe for a player who didn't play running back until last year.
"Two years ago he didn't play offense, he was a straight defensive player," said South Florence Head Coach Lynn Fleming. "He didn't know much about the offense, but he worked real hard in the off-season and the weight room."
Fleming also noted Brown's positive personality. He was voted a team captain and serves as a role model to younger players.
For Brown, it's exciting to see his team in contention this year. He also knows a winning season is far more fun than a losing one.
"This is a good feeling right here," said Brown.
