HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - Officials with the Darlington County School District say a Hartsville High School football coach has resigned after he was arrested in August.

According to Audry Childers, spokeswoman for the school district, Rick Ostrander was charged with solicitation.  Upon the beginning of the school year, Ostrander resigned from his teaching and coaching duties at Hartsville High.

"Coach Ostrander's resignation brought an appropriate resolution to an unfortunate situation," said Dr. Charlie Burry, principal of the school. "We were able to hire an outstanding social studies teacher to fill Coach Ostrander's classroom vacancy and our current coaching staff absorbed his coaching responsibilities."

Ostrander served as the Hartsville High School football team's defensive coordinator.  A 30-year coaching veteran, officials say Ostrander had served at Hartsville High for one year.
