Robinson Nuclear Plant to test alarm

HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - The Robinson Nuclear Plant will be testing its sirens at full strength on Wednesday, August 12.

The sirens will be tested between 2 and 5 p.m. in the ten miles area in cooperation with Chesterfield, Darlington and Lee counties. The alarm is test once every three months.

Officials at the plant owned by Progress Energy want residents to know that the siren will sound for about 15 seconds at least one time during the test.

The alarm was put into place to alert resident to tune into local radio and television stations for the Emergency Alert System (EAS), which will provide the residents with more information and instructions if necessary.

The Robinson Nuclear Plant produces about 710 megawatts of electricity and is about five miles outside Hartsville.
