HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Preceding a brief police chase throughout Horry County, one man has been arrested by the Horry County Police Department near Highway 905 on Monday.

Arthur Leon Stanley, 47, of Nakina, NC, was wanted in connection to a violent incident in Columbus County, NC, before leading police on a car and foot chase on Highway 9 on Sunday.

Sgt. Robert Kegler with the Horry County Police Department says his officers were to be on the lookout for Stanley's car, a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe, in connection to the case.  An officer spotted the vehicle on Highway 9 in Longs and attempted a traffic stop.

Instead of stopping, Stanley picked up speed and a pursuit ensued.  A second police officer, who was attempting to deploy stop sticks, was hit by the vehicle after it turned around and began traveling eastbound at Atlantic Ford.

The chase ended on Highway 9 after Stanley fled the vehicle on foot.  Once officers caught up with Stanley, he was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Stanley is currently in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on charges of failure to stop for blue lights and siren, assault and battery with intent to kill on a police officer, and assault and battery on a police officer while resisting arrest.
