LAKE CITY, SC (WMBF) - Shane Miles and Reggie Weatherford have played baseball together since they were 9. These days, the duo is a driving force behind Lake City's success.
"It's good, because you've played with him, you can trust him," said Miles, a senior center fielder.
Weatherford feels the same sense of trust.
"It's always been friendship, hanging out with him on the weekends," said Weatherford, a senior shortstop. "I can always count on him to get his job done when he steps in there, and he can always count on me to get mine done."
Their coach knows the two players better than most. He says both players always want to be at the plate for a big at bat or in line to make a big play on defense.
"Had them for a while, been able to watch them grow," said Lake City head coach Jason Cook. "Known both of them since they were little. They just compete, that's what I like about them."
Next year, the two will go their separate ways. Weatherford will play baseball at Spartanburg Methodist College; Miles will play at Charleston Southern.
As close as they've been the past decade, they have different things they want to be remembered for.
"Just getting after it, being coachable," said Miles.
"He could hit," said Weatherford. "That's what I want people to say. 'That kid could hit.'"
