GREEN SEA, SC (WMBF) - Beth Fox has a simple outlook on her favorite sport of softball.

"To me it's all about heart and having a love to play ball," said Fox.

Fox is a senior at the Academy of Technology and Academics, but plays on the Green Sea Floyds softball team.  It's a sport she's enjoyed since she was four years old.

"Back when I first started pitching, my mom would go to pitching lessons with me," said Fox.  "That was interesting, especially when she got hit for the first time."

Fox has been on the Trojans team for the past five years.  She pitches and plays all over the infield.  However, her recent change to a different school hasn't changed her role as a leader on the team.

"It's kind of different being separated from all my friends, but when softball season starts, we're together every day," said Fox.

Her coach agrees, saying she's one of the team's best leaders.

"If she sees something going on, willing to gently correct the girls, remind them to stay on track," said Trojans coach Tracy Kienast.  "One of our top students, honors student, gives everything she has in the class as well as on the field.  Can't say enough about her.  She does everything you ask of her."

Fox will head to Anderson University next year.  She wants to eventually play softball, but will likely take a year off to enjoy the college experience.  Fox is sad, however, to see her high school career near an end.

"Well, I already cried - first game," said Fox.  "It'll definitely be a heart breaker not to play high school ball anymore and missing these girls, but it'll be ok."
