MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Lowcountry Food Bank in Myrtle Beach has more cans on their shelves today. That is thanks to donations from a local group that loves to ride motorcycles.
Members of the non-profit group Rolling Thunder came out to donate the food and to hand a check over to the food bank for hundreds of dollars.
The group says they started collecting items once they heard the bank was low after the holidays. They say they were shocked to see how generous people were with their donations.
"It's unbelievable," Bill Holland told us, "I knew that the community was reaching out to us and really helping in what we were trying to do and to donate the food and the money. I never expected to see what we saw today. It's truly magnificent."
Fellow Rolling Thunder member Bill DeVaughn agrees, "It's a great feeling because when we first started this, we had no expectations of how much money or how much food we would raise... in a short period of time. I hope other groups look at us and realize what they can do because the area is hurting and the economy is not getting any better there's a lot of people out there that could use this kind of help.
The food bank says they are thankful for the donations from Rolling Thunder, but that they still need more donations. They say demand is up more than 30 percent from this time last year.
