HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - An estimated $10 million in black tar heroin has been seized from a home in Horry County, marking one of the area's largest heroin busts to date.

Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for the Horry County Police Department, said the 8 kilograms of black tar heroin was discovered on Aug. 2 at a home in the Arrowhead subdivision of Myrtle Beach.

Agents with the Horry County Police Department's Narcotics and Vice Section also removed 1.5 kilograms of powder heroin and an additional .25 kilograms of cocaine during the search. Kegler said the powder heroin and cocaine had street values of $2.2 million and $20,200, respectively.

Those living in the Arrowhead subdivision said the announcement from police has pieced together why a number of officers were spotted in their neighborhood last Monday.

"I don't feel safe," Nancie Dowler, who witnessed the drug search, said. "I have four children. I don't know what's going to happen next."

A number of people living off of Vesta Drive said they witnessed police remove items from inside of a nearby home on Aug. 2, but were unable to identify exactly what was in police possession.

"I'm shocked," Dowler said. "I'm actually shocked."

Officials said the search was executed as the result of a yearlong investigation into a drug trafficking organization that has transported large quantities of black tar heroin to the Grand Strand. The drug is most often shipped from Mexico and transported in small, balloon-like containers.

At the time of the search, no one was occupying the home and no arrests were made.

Horry County Police were assisted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency during the operation.
