MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission is heading to North Myrtle Beach for an upcoming meeting about road improvements in the area.
Local leaders are hoping this will be a chance to get those Grand Strand projects into the spotlight.
Some of the topics of discussion are expected to be the construction of Interstates 73 and 74.
Representative Tracy Edge says he'd also like the DOT to start a study to take a look at widening Highway 90 to four lanes.
Representative Alan Clemmons says he's glad the commission is coming to the area.
"It is a positive sign, having the commission meet here in Horry County, experience themselves our transportation needs," explained Clemmons. "Hopefully they'll be on 501 on a Sunday and experience what kind of delays our tourists are experiencing there."
Clemmons also says that transportation means a lot to economic growth - especially as the Grand Strand continues to expand.
"If we ever needed to further develop our economy, in terms of tourism, now is the time that we're trying to do that in this difficult economic time, how can we do that? Transportation will address a lot of those issues," explained Clemmons.
The DOT meeting is scheduled for September 15th at the North Myrtle Beach City Hall.
