
SOUTH CAROLINA (WMBF) - Residents across the Grand Strand and Pee Dee will be joining an estimated 36.7 million people in a nationwide event aimed at combating crime in local communities.
The 27th annual National Night Out event will be celebrated on Aug. 3, as residents and area law enforcement send a strong message to criminals that they don't want crime plaguing their communities.
Organizers say National Night Out has been designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anti-crime efforts and strengthen the bond between law enforcement and residents.
"This is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity," Matt Peskin, national project coordinator, said. "National Night Out showcase the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation."
National Night Out events sponsored by law enforcement agencies across the Grand Strand and Pee Dee include:
More than 14,625 communities from across the U.S. are expected to participate in the annual event.
