LUMBERTON, NC  (WMBF) -  A weekend air show is expected to bring in a number of tourists to Lumberton for the weekend.

The Mid-Atlantic Fly-In & Sport Aviation Convention is based at the Lumberton Regional Airport and features aircraft and shows organizers say the whole family will enjoy. David Barker is the chairman of the fly-in and says the group wanted to put together a family friendly event that especially aviation lovers will enjoy.

"It's educational it's entertaining, it's good wholesome family fun, from the ages of 5 to 105," said Barker.

Tim Weber is in Lumberton for the fly-in, sporting the Geico stunt plane. He says he plans on do what plans aren't suppose to do.

"I'm going to fly the plane sideways, I'm going to fly it backwards, tail first towards the ground, going 60 mph, I'm going to hover it like a helicopter, I'm going to go end over end, it's just wild and crazy a lot of fun and expect the unexpected," said Weber.  "Despite the fact that it looks wild and crazy and out of control, it's very precise, very repeatable, it's exactly the same every time we do it."

Tourism leaders in Lumberton say the weekend show draws in a large crowd that helps the local economy.

"They come in spend the night, spend a lot of money in our community, tourism is very important to our economy and we welcome them with open arms," said Mickey Gregory with the Lumberton Visitors Bureau.

The Mid-Atlantic Fly-In is Saturday and Sunday May 15-16, 2010 starting at 2 p.m. each day.
